Jim’s Career Page

The Nike Hercules Years – 1976 to 1980 – – Note that most of the Nike Launch photo’s in this album are from other sources. When I was launching rockets at McGreggor Range in New Mexico, we were not allowed to have camera’s, and this was before cell phones. My unit was the 2/52 Air Defense Artillery, and we were the only fully mobile Nike unit in the US Army.

Air Assault Helicopter Years, 1st Infantry Division – 1981 to 1985 – – This was fun!! Lots of work, but also fun. I not only flew the missions, but I was also a Maintenance Test Pilot for Charlie Company, 1st Infantry Division. That means I earned my pay by flying broken helicopters – think about it – I got called out in the middle of the night when aircraft had problems out in the field. My job was to recover these assets and get them back to our maintenance area where they could be repaired. I flew them long enough to troubleshoot the problem, and then again after the repair to make sure it was really fixed.

Engineering Years – 1985 to Current – – This covers a lot of territory. Caterpillar Coop while at Kansas State University, Apache and LHX Rotor Design at McDonnell Douglas Helicopters, Rocket Scientist at Space Data, Rotors and Controls Design Engineer on the UH-12E for Rogerson Hiller, Reliability Engineering and Field Follow Engineer for Caterpillar, F35 Vision System FRB Lead Engineer for Collins Aerospace, B2 Communications Reliability Lead Engineer, and currently the Reliability Engineer for Lockheed Martin on the MLRS (multiple launch rocket system). It’s not over yet.
